Access to psychological support can help shape “rounded employees”

Businesses operating in serviced office accommodation and other buildings need to ensure that their employees have access to psychological support, Right Corecare has advised.

Be tending to employees’ psychological wellbeing, businesses could help their staff discover better ways of coping with the “inevitable pressure of working life”.

Kevin Friery, clinical director of the organisation, said that employers should be making sure that people had access to good emotional support to help develop their psychological wellbeing – their emotional side – as well as “their task-specific skills that they need to do the job”.

Mr Friery said: “You need a rounded employee; you need somebody who can actually do the job but who can also psychologically cope with the pressure of being an employee.”

He added that programmes to equip staff with “the skills for resilience” could help minimise the effect of stress.

His comments come on the back of a recent survey by the Chartered Management Institute, which found that 39 per cent of employees claim that stress levels are too high and lay the blame for this at their manager’s door.

The report also found that a third (34 per cent) of employees reported they no longer enjoy their job.
