All professionals should be aware of cloud computing

Flexible working practices are now commonplace in British serviced office spaces.

People can check their emails and browse through documents on the way to a meeting on the other side of London and if disaster hits the public transport network – such as the recent snowfall – then many people can now work from home.

But some industries are failing to take advantage of this shift towards flexible working.

Which is why the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (Rics) has reiterated the case for cloud computing and flexible working practices to its members.

Speaking to the Financial Times, Andrew Waller, a spokesperson for Rics, said: “The impending impact of businesses adopting the Cloud will be far reaching.”

“Organisations that choose to adopt these virtual IT systems will be able to reduce their running costs and smaller businesses will be able to access systems which would, otherwise, have been beyond their financial means.”

Just this week, however, Ryan Faas wrote an article for IT World, claiming that businesses that get rid of the servers in their office spaces and adopt the cloud computing model need to ensure they balance accessibility with security.
