Command and control environments ‘stifle talent’

Businesses based in serviced offices need to become “culturally led” in a way that encourages people to release talent, it has been claimed.

European Leaders has suggested that the way businesses are run needs to alter in order to avoid stifling talent in a “control and command” environment, which can have a tendency to instil fear into employees.

Ashley Ward, one of the directors of the company, said: “You need to have buy-in from the tip that you are going to be a transparent business to achieve a workforce throughout the levels of the business that is engaged with the business and can very much see what it is doing.”

He added that many employees have an in-built fear of those in management and middle-management.

His comments follow research by the DDI Global Leadership Forecast, which showed that just 36 per cent of UK leaders rated their organisation as having a high quality of leadership.
