Employees’ taking control’ over the way they work

Employees are taking more control over the way they work, forcing businesses to implement new working strategies, according to a new survey.

YouGov, working on behalf of Citrix Online, found that 45 per cent of businesses had noticed increased pressure from their employees to embrace mobile technology, which would allow their staff to work much more flexibly.

The report found that employees wanted to improve their work-life balance, which technology could make happen, through, for example, arrangements like mobile working.

Andrew Millard, senior director of marketing at Citrix Online, said that a “huge change” was taking place in the UK workplace.

Mr Millard said: “Individuals want to prioritise what they do. It is no surprise therefore that there is so much resistance to work shifting, as managers have to move to evaluating performance on results over time rather than on the basis of physically seeing them working at their desks.”

According to the study, employees saw mobile devices as integral to giving them greater control of their time.
