Employers should ensure workers are vigilant about phishing

ServicedofficeBENews800599413

Get Safe Online has advised that businesses in serviced offices and other accommodation should train staff to be vigilant about phishing scams.

The company has suggested that employees need to be trained to become cautious email-users and not simply reply to all emails, in a bid to be responsible internet users.

Tony Neate, managing director of the company, said: “It is good corporate governance, in relation to any emails that are received, to make sure that they go to the person that they allegedly relate to and it is fully checked out before any correspondence is entered into at all.”

He added that if people do not respond to phishing emails, it shows the person at the other end that there may not be anyone on the email address. Otherwise, if a reply is made, it means a dialogue can begin.

Earlier this week, Graham Cluley, senior technology consultant at Sophos, raised the alarm about a new type of phishing email which is intended to trick Microsoft Outlook Users into handing over their log in details.
