Good office space management will boost engagement

Businesses wanting their employees to go the extra mile have to ensure that their managers create more engaging office spaces by providing staff with guidance, regular feedback and as much autonomy as possible.

According to the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), managers need to always bear in mind that their key role is to promote office space productivity and boosting employee engagement is a key way of doing this.

Ben Willmott, senior public policy adviser at CIPD, said: “The research findings may seem on the face of it simple, common sense recommendations.

“But it is precisely that kind of plain-speaking common sense that managers need. Our findings shine a light on what managers can really do on a day-to-day basis to ensure employees will go the extra mile.”

He said a common sense approach was more vital than ever before in the wake of jobs cuts, pay freezes and reductions to training budgets.

The Performance and Reward Centre recently claimed, in its Developing Performance Incentives and Sustaining Engagement in a Volatile Environment report, that office space bonuses can boost performance and be used to highlight desirable workplace practices.
