Lack of communication leads to low staff motivation, research claims

A lack of communication between senior managers and the rest of the workforce is leading to low motivation among staff in serviced offices and other sorts of accommodation, new research has shown.

A survey by people development company European Leaders showed that two-thirds of people said they fail to understand the vision and direction of their company, which can lead to reduced productivity. Many more added that they could work more efficiently and effectively with better motivation.

Some also said that they believed strong management was crucial to building motivation among staff.

Ashley Ward, director of European Leaders, said: “It’s widely accepted that people performance is the biggest influence in business performance, yet, as a nation we’re still not doing enough.”

He added that the fact that people wanted to be more involved in their work showed they thought about the business and cared about how they were managed.

The Chartered Management Institute has advised people to be more proactive, and not wait to be asked for ideas and plans, in order to increase morale in the workplace.
