Reading on the International Business Map

Launch event at newly refurbished office scheme welcomes a gathering of over 70 business leaders and local company representatives

A launch event was held this month to introduce a new local publication which aims to promote Reading as a viable alternative to London for businesses to be located.

Reading:UK Magazine, together with a complementary website, will target local, national and international companies with a view to attracting them to the town.

Newly refurbished office scheme, One Valpy, was the venue for the launch event which was attended by over 70 people representing local businesses.

Reading UK

Reading UK CIC Executive Director, Nigel Horton-Baker welcomed delegates saying: “The Reading:UK magazine we believe will be a powerful calling card for wooing prospective businesses into Reading and lays out a compelling message for investors and developers looking for a prime location.”

The contents of the new magazine are described as a celebration of Reading’s benefits, strengths and attributes as a business location.

The publication provides readers with an introduction to Reading offering news on the towns past achievements along with its plans for the future.

The town’s transport connections are highlighted, in particular the £895 million Reading station redevelopment and surrounding rail network improvements, the scheduled arrival of Crossrail in 2019 and the new Western Access Rail scheme which by 2021 will deliver a direct rail link to Heathrow.

Office development in the vicinity of the train station is featured in a chapter on future projects, focusing on the new Forbury Place development on the site of the old Forbury Metal Box in Chatham Place, also the business to residential conversion in King’s Road.

Mr Horton-Baker noted an amazing “strength of investment in Reading” since he has been in his role (18 months) with “a staggering 2.2 million sq ft of office space” having been created within 500m radius of the railway station.
