Lunchtimes are a great opportunity to get away from the office

ServicedofficeBENews800724818

Staff in offices should use their lunchtime to get away from the office and their usual business surroundings, according to the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP).

They have suggested that bosses should set examples for employees of getting more active and leaving the office in order to reduce the £7.4 billion spent on musculoskeletal disorders every year.

According to new research by CSP 42 per cent of people get out of breath walking upstairs or running for the bus.

Activities that could be done at lunchtime and could help relieve stress and tension include taking a walk around the neighbourhood, having a massage or participating in a yoga or Pilates class.

Leonie Dawson, a professional advisor at CSP, said: “Lunchtimes are an absolutely wonderful opportunity to get away from your normal workplace. The evidence shows that people who do step away from work are more productive in the afternoon.”
