Mobile working: Most jobs can offer flexible working opportunities

Most jobs can accommodate some aspect of mobile and flexible working, no matter how hands-on, it has been claimed.

The Telework Association has said that many fears over the suitability of mobile working put forward by employers are “overplayed”.

Director of research Peter Thomson said: “I think part of the prejudice is a feeling that because it can’t be done permanently from home, it can’t be done from home at all. But a portion of most jobs, even hands-on jobs, can be done remotely.”

He added that even very hands-on roles such as nursing could have a flexible working aspect to them, as there was a lot of paperwork and meetings which could be performed away from the workplace.

An official analysis of figures performed by the TUC to mark National Work From Home day showed that the amount of people working from home has slowed in the recession. There are now around 3.7 million people who work from home in the UK.
