‘Strategic approach’ needed for long-term talent recruitment

A long-term, strategic approach is needed for companies looking to address staffing issues, it has been claimed.

Hays recruitment agency has said that employers need to think differently about staffing in a bid to address issues with potential skills shortages.

Chris Logan, director of the group’s UK arm, said: “While unemployment is rife in some areas, there are still some industries that are suffering from skills shortages.

Hiring managers will need to understand the flow of their talent pipeline, knowing why people move and what drives this movement of talent around the globe.”

He added that this would be the only way for companies to gain and maintain an edge in a competitive global skills market.

A recent survey by Manpower Group showed that one in three employers worldwide was having difficulty filling jobs because of a lack of available talent.

Industries which are particularly affected include engineering and construction, as well as office-based jobs.
