Survey shows mobile workers not supported by IT

Concerns have been raised over the provision of mobile working for staff in the UK after a survey revealed that IT provisions did not go far enough to support it.

Research by Vanson Bourne, which was completed on behalf of IT performance company Riverbed Technology, showed that a quarter of employees who work remotely experienced performance issues, and 11 per cent had problems with application performance, Computerworld reported.

The problem was not just contained to companies in the UK, as firms in Germany and France were also questioned.

Figures from the research showed that the number of mobile workers had increased in the last 12 months, but that calls for help had also gone up.

Mark Lewis, marketing and alliance senior director at Riverbed, told the news provider: “To ensure no loss in productivity for off-site staff, the technology experience they have working remotely must resemble that of their colleagues back in the office.”

The Telework Association said last month that most jobs should be able to contain some element of flexible and mobile working.
