UK employers supporting vocational qualifications

ServicedofficeBENews800607855

Employees in offices in London and across the UK could benefit from vocational qualifications in the future, after some of the largest companies in the country joined a campaign in support of VQ.

BAE Systems, Cisco, Mitchells & Butlers and EDF Energy are among the firms which have signed a 12-month commitment to support vocational qualifications, reports HR magazine.

Over the next 12 months each of the companies will commit to either offering work placements to 16 to 18 year-olds, providing coursework materials, giving employers the chance to give talks or offer mentoring at local sixth forms or hosting a meeting with local colleges to discuss working relationships.

Peter Mitchell, interim chief executive officer of Edge, which ran VQ Day, commented: “Vocational qualifications have never been more important to the economy; they deliver trained, talented employees and ensure young people have the skills needed to succeed in education and work.”

VQ Day was held on June 22nd.
